Photobooks Switzerland, the Swiss photobook festival, is back for a sixth edition, with a new partnership with Bibliothèque de Genève! Over three days, discover the best of Swiss and European independent photobook publishers, try your hand at bookbinding, participate in a workshop or portfolio review, and meet artists, publishers and designers.
Photobooks Switzerland aims to make the photobook and its Swiss and European independent publishers better known to a broad audience, in particular those whose publications are not always easy to find in Swiss bookshops. Although artist books are more widely recognised, the photobook remains relatively confidential in Switzerland. Yet today, it is the medium of choice for many photographers, who develop some of their projects specifically with the book format in mind. With the proliferation of digital formats, printed objects are becoming a physical and sustainable alternative, capable of standing the test of time and offering a rich visual and tactile experience, at a very affordable price compared to that of an original photographic print. Photography publishing is currently booming, with many independent publishers offering original objects, carefully developed with photographers and graphic designers to convey a unique photographic project. In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, Photobooks Switzerland invites anyone curious about photography and publishing to discover the best of Swiss and European independent publishing.
One part of the festival is designed specifically for artists and photographers, with workshops and portfolio reviews designed to support the development of their projects.
The programme for 2026 includes: workshops for photographers and the general public (Friday 24 April), the photobook fair (Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April), an exhibition (Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April), a talks programme (Saturday 25 April), and the Dummy Clinic (Sunday 26 April).
The detailed programme will be announced in April 2026. If you are interested in participating in the photobook fair as a publisher, you can already express your interest by writing to photobooks.switzerland@centrephotogeneve.ch.
The first event in Switzerland entirely dedicated to photobooks, Photobooks Switzerland was initially co-organised with Photoforum Pasquart and the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography from 2019 to 2022. It has been organised by Centre de la photographie Genève since 2023, bringing new developments and a new dimension to the festival. Photobooks Switzerland was initiated by artist and cultural organiser Anastasia Mityukova, who served as its artistic director from 2019 to 2025. Information about past editions can be found on Photobooks Switzerland’s website.
