Photobooks Switzerland aims to make the photobook and its Swiss and European independent publishers better known to a broad audience, in particular those whose publications are not always easy to find in Swiss bookshops. Although artist books are more widely recognised, the photobook remains relatively confidential in Switzerland. Yet today, it is the medium of choice for many photographers, who develop some of their projects specifically with the book format in mind. With the proliferation of digital formats, printed objects are becoming a physical and sustainable alternative, capable of standing the test of time and offering a rich visual and tactile experience, at a very affordable price compared to that of an original photographic print. Photography publishing is currently booming, with many independent publishers offering original objects, carefully developed with photographers and graphic designers to convey a unique photographic project. In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, Photobooks Switzerland invites anyone curious about photography and publishing to discover the best of Swiss and European independent publishing. One part of the festival is designed specifically for artists and photographers, with workshops and portfolio reviews designed to support the development of their projects.
