WORKSHP FULLY BOOKED
This workshop offers an in-depth and structured introduction to the photobook format as a narrative tool, understood not merely as a container of images, but as a space where thought, discourse, and the reading experience are articulated. Throughout the session, the photobook will be approached from a dual perspective: as a cultural object with its own history and conventions, and as a field of contemporary experimentation, where content and form are in constant dialogue. The workshop places special emphasis on narrative strategies that make it possible to construct meaning through sequencing, rhythm, tone, and the relationship between images, text, and
design. Through the analysis of numerous photobooks—most of them out of print and difficult to access—from the author’s personal collection, the different roles involved in the creation of a book (author, editor, designer, printer) will be examined, and reflection will be encouraged on the decisions that determine the final outcome. The workshop presents the photobook as a collective process, in which each stage directly influences the construction of the narrative. In addition, a group editing exercise will be proposed in order to apply the concepts analysed in the various publications.
This workshop is led by Alex Llovet. The author of eight photobooks and one novel, he has exhibited his work in numerous countries. He currently works on developing personal photographic projects characterised by a desire to construct a conceptual, poetic discourse, in which the everyday is sublimated to reveal realities beyond appearances, thus questioning the boundaries between reality and fiction. He is interested both in image-making and in their reinterpretation through the editing process. He currently teaches at IEFC in Barcelona and Blackkamera in Bilbao. He is the co-founder, director, and editor of Ediciones Posibles, an independent photobook publisher founded in Barcelona in 2018.
