Organised by Geneva Art Week in collaboration with Documents d’artistes Genève, this Art Talks programme, led by curator Samuel Gross, will bring together artists, curators, art critics and heads of institutions for two round-table discussions focusing on the contemporary art scenes in Geneva.
Through these discussions, we will look back at the recent history of Geneva’s contemporary art scenes, their evolution and the transformations they are currently undergoing. Over the decades, Geneva has established itself as a particularly dynamic hub, driven not only by leading institutions but also by a rich and active independent scene.
How do these different ecosystems coexist, and how do they contribute to Geneva’s influence on the national and international art scene? Can we still speak of a ‘Geneva scene’ in a context where artists, curators and artworks are increasingly circulating on an international scale? Straddling local roots and transnational networks, these round-table discussions will offer a multi-faceted perspective on the distinctive features and contradictions of Geneva’s contemporary art scenes, as well as on their influence, how they are perceived beyond Geneva’s borders, and the new prospects emerging for their future.
